Dark Knight (2008), Written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, Directed by Christopher Nolan

Eek! I could not turn away from this dark film, yet found the storyline confusing. There were just too many subplots (i.e. is this the end of Batman, will Lucius Fox leave Wayne Enterprises, what will Batman do for a girlfriend, will Alfred get over being disappointed in Bruce Wayne, what did/did not happen to Lt. Gordon, etc.) and more than enough sadistic killing for one film. I completely concur with the NYT critic who said, among other things, that the film was "jumbled." But boy was that Bat-cycle cool! And Christian Bale was as good to look at as Heath Ledger was repulsive. As villians go, Heath Ledger was just as creepy and intriguing as Jack Nicholson in that earlier Batman (1989).

I just saw Dark Knight the other day - I was a little disappointed but I still enjoyed it. I think Heath Ledger will go down in history as giving one of the great movie villain performances, along the lines of Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter... If it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't have liked it nearly as much. Christian Bale is great as Bruce Wayne, but a little weak as Batman. I found it annoying every time Batman would speak, using that weird growling whisper monotone voice and speaking in very short succinct sentences. That didn't work for me and I found it laughable at times. I also think they should have left the Harvey Dent/Two Face plot out of this movie and kept it focused on The Joker. I thought it was long enough with the Joker plot...

But I really liked its darkness... This series is much more crime saga epic than the other Batman movies. Seems like Nolan isn't as interested in making it "comic book" like.

I totally concur with losing the Two Face plot...

Overall, I liked it!

What I didn't like:
Too much Joker! I thought Heath Ledger was great, but I needed less of his creepy lick smacking grossness and more Batman heroics.
Joker pulled off too complicated crimes I know my expectations of realism from a comic book character movie should be low, but I couldn't stop thinking that for someone who only works alone and keeps killing his accomplices, the joker sure pulled off some pretty intricate schemes...

What I liked:
Action!!! The pace of this movie was awesome and never dragged, despite it's three hour run time.
Christian Bale!! He is the best batman. He needs a better love interest though...

Overall
I would recommend this to anyone who wants a great action flick, but it isn't worth seeing twice.
